Atofina Develops New PET Catalyst - S-28

One of the additives produced by the Atofina Chemical Company in Philadelphia, USA, is a catalyst for the polycondensation of PET. The company developed and produced trivalent cerium acetate and ethylene glycol lanthanum (S-21 and S-24 respectively) in the early years; in 2003, it also developed a new generation of new ruthenium-based catalyst S-28. The above three kinds of catalysts are all made of antimony trioxide and are easy to use. Therefore, they are called "performed" catalysts. Although the total consumption of the three catalysts and the consumption of antimony trioxide have increased year by year, the total consumption of the three catalysts has increased rapidly. In 1997, the consumption of both catalysts was about the same. In the following years, the consumption of the three catalysts was depleted. The amount exceeds that of antimony trioxide.
Although S-28 is a sulfhydryl group, it is mixed with other metals and thus has the following characteristics when used as a PET polycondensation catalyst:
1. With high activity, it can increase the production efficiency of melt polycondensation or solid phase polycondensation by 10 to 15%.
2. The quality of produced PET is good. Compared with PET, the DEG content is reduced from 1.83% to 0.57% and the glass transition temperature is increased from 79.6°C to 80.1°C.
3. The PET produced has a good hue, and compared with the above-mentioned one based on PET, the L value is increased from 78.2 to 80.1, the b value is reduced from 0.3 to -1.1; the amount of reduced metal bismuth is less, and the "grey" of the slice can be reduced. .
4. The content of PET metal produced is relatively low, and impurities are also less.
5. When PET bottles are produced, they can shorten the injection cycle and increase the filling temperature.
