MAC OS 8 Chinese Version Known Limitations and Compatibility Issues

1. TrueType Font Editor and Word Wisdom Display: TrueType Font Editor is not compatible with word-wise display. When using TrueType font editing program, the user must switch the word smart display to "Off".

2. Installation: When installing the Mac OS 8 Chinese version on certain models (eg: 7600/120, 9500/120), the system freezes occasionally.

3. General problem: When using the keyboard shortcut in the input method pencil list item, the display color of the pencil list item will be changed according to the color selection of “note paper”. The same problem also occurs with English systems using AACLK.

4. General Questions: The "Roman" language cannot be selected in the "Text Features" control panel. Closing the Control Panel will change back to the "Traditional Chinese" language, but in fact the function has been switched to the "Roman" language.

5. General problem: If the font "Unlimited Download Font" is not selected when printing, the Chinese True Type Shadow font cannot be printed by the laser printer.

6. Word Wisdom Display: If the name of the file or file is fifteen Chinese words plus one English word, the word-wise wisdom display is "On." The end of the name will be garbled. If the word Wisdom display is "Off", the end of the name will be blank.

7. Apple User Guide: If the user tries to install the English version of the Apple User Guide Extension (Apple Guide, possibly with some English application installations, such as WordPerfect 3.5, CyberDog 2.0), due to the older version, it may not be installed successfully. Therefore, the text in the usage guide for these applications cannot be displayed correctly.

8. Apple User Guide: Mac OS 8 Chinese does not have the following additional guide files: AppleVision Extras, Voice Add-on Guides, AV Monitor Extras.

9. If the "Automatic connection" control panel is set to "Reload shared disks after sleep", the PowerBook will not automatically reconnect to the server when rebooted or awake.

10. Apple Printer Utility: Print Startup Page cannot be closed.

11. Apple Printer Utility and Eric Solitaire Sample: If these two programs are executed on the CD, they will not leave. The user must use Force Quit.

12. Password input: If the keyboard language is set to US, the password cannot be entered in FileMaker's file, and the user must switch to the Traditional Chinese password input mode to enter the password. Other applications with password entry may have the same problem.

13. PageMaker 6.0C: The Chinese TrueType fonts attached to Taipei and the other three Chinese systems will be garbled when printed using LaserWriter 8.4.3; if printed in LaserWriter 8.3.4, TrueType fonts can be successfully printed. However, the word Taipei does not work.

14. Photoshop 4.0C: The button cannot be displayed in the installation dialog.

15. Microsoft Excel 4.0 & 5.0: Chinese characters cannot be formatted (Align: vertical text orientation).

16. Microsoft Excel 4.0 & 5.0: Chinese characters can't set the bottom line (Format: Style: Font: Underline).

17. Aldus Persuasion 3.0 : When using Chinese Input, and the font size is 30, 36, 48, the wrong character will be displayed.

18. Adobe Illustrator 5.0TC : Cannot do text wrapping. The same problem also occurs with English systems using AACLK.
