Punching technology
Why do you want to punch?
In addition to other methods, punching holes, drilling holes, and indexing grooves will add unusual decorative effects to prints and attract attention. Depending on the purpose and use, these punching methods can have a positive or negative effect on the cost of the printed matter compared to other modeling methods.
All three methods are typical of long-term use. These methods are not exactly the focus of attention in research and teaching, and they are rarely published in publications. Users and machine builders are aware of their details and deficiencies, and can be said to be well aware, but manufacturers still demonstrate the advantages and new technologies of these methods at Drupa Expo.
Seen from different perspectives
1. Punching is a preparation for the machining process. For example, making a slit hole in a folder can show accurate folding lines and easily allow air to escape. Punching holes in the folding machine is to perform the entire ridge processing for the post process bookbinding.
2. Mechanical binding, such as ring set, spiral set, iron ring set, plastic ring set, screw set, etc., all require opening, and the connection ring can be penetrated in the hole. Punching and punching (also with drilling) are important operating techniques.
3. The process of tearing the holes can now be matched with the user's requirements.
Wall calendars, return postcards, receipts, etc. all use straight-line tear-off holes and can usually be connected to previous processes. For example, it is connected with the slit punch of the folder. In this case there is no need to fold lines (traditional way).
Special machines connected behind the finisher can be produced on-line, with no loss of efficiency (eg Solo-cut Vario from Obert). Heidelberg sheetfed presses use the RSP online system to connect directly to the printing process.
Some medium-sized machine manufacturers have introduced punches that can also be linearly curved and can be used as stand-alone or online. These manufacturers are generally guaranteed to meet the special requirements of the user. They are Wista, Pamatec, Foellmer.
The first company mentioned above insisted on manufacturing the entire stamping punching machine, but it also supplied various forms of punching and punching tools; the second company promised that they had at least one machine (KSM 6030) capable of all The live: tear holes, hole corners, iron ring punch punch, folder punch, cut, position cut, three cut. These activities can use the tools that customers already have.
The last-mentioned Foellmer-made stand-alone machine is aimed primarily at users who do not need this technology every day. In addition, the company manufactures rigid punches, creasers and punches for straight-line punching.
Drilling technology
In process technology, drilling is called punching with a rotating tool. Therefore, drilling a hole is always round. The diameter and spacing of the boreholes can be changed, but they can only be arranged in a line or plane. Drilling is usually required in the processing of paper products in order to tie the labels, such as variously shaped hanging tags. This method has a wide range of applications throughout the paper processing industry. For example, in terms of packaging and plastics, drilling technology can be used for all planar materials.
The difference between drilling and punching and punching is that the hole can process relatively thick piles of materials (maximum thickness up to 76 mm). Because each bit is on its own fixture, it is limited by the hole pitch. This limitation can be reduced to the extent that the material allows by using multiple drill bits or moving the drilled object in the correct phase. One type of boring machine uses manual loading and unloading of drilled objects and operates manually. The paper pile transported on the automaton, the four sides of the pile, the accurate transmission inside the machine, and the drilling itself and the delivery pile need not be manually involved. Efficient drilling machines are automated within the machine.
Wista's drills have one to four drill shafts (more if necessary) that can be precisely machined to assist in the operation of the job. The Foellmer manufac- turer offers a machine that is an “unlimited extension†bit of a specialty product and the possibility of being converted into a filleting machine.
Dürselen developed an electronically controlled multi-drilling machine. The machine can install up to 22 drills. The above-mentioned automatic drilling equipment is manufactured by Dürselen and Hang.
On-demand printing
Printing on demand is one of the buzzwords of our time. On-demand post-press processing is the next step, and there is no satisfactory solution yet. Even if the pre-punched and sealed leaflet is sold as a printed matter, at best, only a small amount of printed matter is satisfactory.
In comparison, hoop binding has taken a big step forward. With the "Corta PBII Flexible Machining Center" (see Figure 2), digital printing products can be processed on-line into precisely punched book blocks. There is no need for commissioning and no waste, and the punched book blocks continue to be delivered to the stapling unit.
The Cut-o-Drill device developed by the Perfecta Cutter Manufactory in collaboration with Dürselen (see Figure 3) is another option for digitally printing subsequent drill holes: Cutting and drilling are done in the cutter and then sent to the stapling unit.
Indexing slot
The marginal index slot is a good way to read and find. It is often used for handwriting notebooks, phone books, directories, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and similar products. If you do not have equipment for grooving, or if you do not have enough live sources with the equipment, making such an index is expensive.
Make an index card inserted into the folder, and each letter should have a page of the specified thickness. For example, Kopp and Widmann's manufacturing plants complete the entire process in a complete set of equipment, and can also do die-cutting and packaging. But what about books?
The marginal index of the book must be made after binding the book. This not only meets the purpose, but also meets the aesthetic requirements.
In a period of low productivity, the bindery factory will install an indexing machine to meet the requirements of some users and park it on the side for backup. After the bindery factory was developed into an industrial enterprise by hand, some attractive equipment still stopped there, precisely because it was not installed on the production line.
The addition of an index slot to the print can significantly improve the ease of use. This technology can produce attractive, personalized products that are at first glance. Foellmer introduced a manual machine that aimed the user's object in the customer's circle where holes and drills were already installed.
Two machineries in Sweden specialize in indexing slot machines and die-cutting machines. The ARNO plant in Lund, Sweden, mainly manufactures indexing machines and can select multiple machines to be installed one after the other. The entire equipment is controlled by a computer (see Figure 4). The manufacturers also highlighted the possibility of processing recycled paper and very thin paper. Each of the machines controlled by the computer can process a complete set of products. The Mecland machine factory in Pita, Sweden, makes a compact machine. The number of stations in the machine can vary. Processed products pass through all work stations, one step per station, and multiple passes when necessary.
Automatic indexing die-cutting machine from Durrer, Switzerland
The company is an index die-cutting machine that provides various processing methods as a professional factory. The punching precision of this machine is convincing. Ochsner+co is also a Swiss company. The indexing slot machine it manufactures can cut a wide variety of index slots. Figure 5 shows the various index slots made by the machine. The computer controls the grooving process of the three axes. Manufacturers put operational safety first in designing machines. According to the manufacturer, the operation and programming of the machine is easy to learn, so the customers who are well-satisfied are pleased that printed products have been decorated with index decorations.
Small knot
The traditional style of books and other printed materials indicates that its usefulness has long been confirmed and its status is indisputable. However, the new style has brought fun to readers. Whether it is for experienced bookers or people who do not have much literacy, they can enjoy it from books or prints at hand. ※
