Look at the material

Nowadays, there are many kinds of red wood in the market, which makes people look like clouds. The growth of redwood is slow, the material is hard, and the growth period is more than a few hundred years. It is the collective name for high-end and precious furniture materials in China. The redwoods originated in southern China have been cut down as early as the Ming and Qing dynasties. Today's Redwood is mostly produced in Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America.

Discrimination method: The state regulates the redwood according to the density and other indicators, and the redwood is standardized as: two, five, eight, thirty-three.

Except for the thirty-three kinds of wood mentioned above, the others cannot be called mahogany.

Sapwood

In the industry, the dark part of the wood is often called the "heartwood", while the whitish part that surrounds the heartwood is called "white skin", also known as "sapwood." According to national standards, only wood heartwood can be called "redwood", white skin can not be called "redwood", white leather can be used in mahogany furniture, but its use rate can not exceed one tenth of a single piece of material (width less than 8mm Sapwood does not count).

Discrimination method: There is a clear color difference between the white skin and the heart material, and the color is generally adjusted by painting. When distinguishing under strong light, the main basis is whether there is a black pattern.

If it is a precious mahogany, it is generally impossible to process the dark color with black and red, usually after careful finishing and polishing, and directly paint with raw lacquer to make the pattern fully exposed. If the finished product is black or has no pattern, it can be determined to be non-redwood or white.

Check process

If it is mahogany furniture, you must use the 榫卯 structure. The so-called 榫卯 structure is a kind of connection method of bumps and joints used on two wooden members. The protruding part is called 榫 (or hoe), the concave part is called 卯 (or blinking, grooving), and the 榫 and 卯 are engaged, so that the furniture parts can be firmly combined without one nail and one rivet. However, in the production process, some merchants use iron nails or even glue instead to reduce labor and material use costs.

Discrimination method: When purchasing, carefully observe whether the joint position of the parts is firm and tight, and whether there is any trace of the polished surface to block the nails.

If nails are used, the probability of cracking of the surrounding wood is greater. Of course, the easiest way is to detect it with a magnet or a metal detector.

Engraving

At present, the carving methods of mahogany furniture are divided into two types: machine carving and hand carving. The machine carving is only suitable for relief and openwork with limited precision. The products are neat and uniform, lacking aura. The common moiré, roll grass, etc. on mahogany furniture are mostly machine-carved works. There are also some pattern ornamentation, which is to first make the basic pattern by machine carving, and then use the method of hand carving to ensure the production efficiency and beautiful furniture. In order to reduce costs, some merchants often eliminate the hand-engraving process.

Discrimination method: Hand-carving is made on the basis of machine carving, although it is also very neat, but each look is slightly different.

The biggest difference is that the plane part is oblique to the dug part, like the shape of a mountain, narrow and wide. In addition, the machine carving is done under the assembly line. No matter whether it is a flower disk or a cloud bead, each place is the same size and looks no different. The hand carving is different because of the craftsman's craftsmanship. There is a difference.
