The Shaanxi Provincial Government stated that the disposable wooden chopsticks that were widely used before had not only consumed a large amount of forest resources, but also caused many pollutions in production, transportation and sales. The continued production, sale and use of disposable chopsticks will be punished in the future. According to statistics, China now produces about 45 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks each year, and it is necessary to cut 25 million poplar and birch trees. However, our country is a timber shortage country and the forest coverage rate is only about 10%. In the past, Shaanxi Province used to have lush forests. Today, the vast loess plateau has a small amount of vegetation and serious soil and water loss, and it inputs large amounts of sediment to the Yellow River and the Yangtze River each year.
