Israeli technology company EyeCue Vision Technologies (EVT) has developed an app called Qlone that turns a camera on an iPhone or iPad into an easy-to-use scanner. In the last decade, the company has been developing visual identity-based solutions for toys and games.
The user has to print out a piece of paper with a large QR code (a type of QR code), place the object to be scanned in the middle of the paper, and then move the camera around the object. Qlone's Augmented Reality Dome will surround the object and capture a detailed 3D scan. Users can also easily combine two different poses of the same object for a better scan. With a simple set of editing tools, including textures, art, engraving, cleaning, and resizing, users can easily modify and clean up objects after a scan capture.
"The purpose of developing Qlone is to popularize 3D content production so that everyone can participate. With Qlone, you no longer have to buy expensive 3D scanners , no need to explore multiple software to clean up optimized objects, without exporting files to your computer. It can then be uploaded to Shapeways/Sketchfab/CGTrader. All of these tasks can now be done directly in an app on the iPhone. Whether it's for 3D printing , AR/VR content creation, sharing and sales, etc., Qlone created Infinite possibilities," the company said.
Users can easily export Qlone scans into a range of file formats, including STL, OBJ, PLY and X3D, or share them on social platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and emails and text messages. The app also integrates several 3D printing and file sharing platforms, including Shapeways, CGTrader and Sketchfab, and will integrate with other platforms in the future.
Recently, Qlone has added a high-resolution mode that enables 50% higher resolution than before. Users can download and use the app for free on iTunes, but if you want to export the scan, you need to pay for it in the app. EVT said that it will soon develop an Android version of Qlone.
