1. Clean up discipline
* The amount of absorption determines the thickness of the varnish. For accurate metering, the press operator must ensure that there are no dry varnish residues on the anilox roller. Therefore, after each job is completed, the anilox roller must be cleaned.
* After online cleaning (recommended using warm water), wipe the anilox roller thoroughly with a damp cloth first, and then dry the roller with a clean cloth until all traces of moisture are removed.
* After applying special effect varnish, such as metal or pearlescent pigment, blistering varnish and opaque white paint, the anilox roller should be cleaned immediately. Practice has proved that it is correct to connect a warm water pipe for gold and blistering varnish.
2. Check the absorption
* Regular maintenance should be stipulated in the quality assurance program. This includes inspection and measurement of the anilox roller with a microscope for the convenience of anilox roller selection, advocacy for cleaning discipline and monitoring of the anilox roller wear.
* According to the process used in the printing plant or the anilox roll manufacturer, the anilox roll imprinting method is used to monitor the absorption and other parameters with different accuracy. Under ideal conditions, the interferometric (ie three-dimensional) volume measurement performed directly on the roller can reduce the error tolerance to ± 3%. In the case of an indirect optical and interferometric volume measurement with an anilox roller measuring strip, the error range is between + 4% and -7%.
* Most of the major fluctuations are caused by the following interference:
* Pollution caused by varnish residues (measurement can also provide evidence of pollution).
* Excessive pinholes cause irregular carving,
-The printing of the anilox roller on the paper is wrong,
-There was an error in the interferometric evaluation of the measurement bar imprint.
* The depth of the engraved part is usually not recorded, because considerable local fluctuations can be misleading. It is important that the absorption test should be performed on a sufficiently large portion of the roller.
* Stripes are usually not related to fluctuations in absorption. If streaks appear, check the rigidity and wear of the two scrapers on the anilox roller.
3. Replace the anilox roller
* KBA recommends using a crane to replace the anilox roller on a large format printing machine. This avoids the risk of damage caused by manual handling and excessive force. The rollers for small-format and medium-format printers are lightweight and can be replaced by hand.
* The roller must be removed from the printing press before deep cleaning and inspection of signs of wear can be performed.
