PageMaker is a groupware software whose open architecture allows the use of a compatible color management system to manage the colors displayed on the display and in the output. The color management system can adjust the color relationships between devices to ensure that the colors in the layout process are consistent. Pagekaker6.5C supports two International Color Consortium (ICC) compatible systems: the Kodak color management system on the Macintosh and Windows platforms and the Color Sync 2.x standard on the Macintosh platform.

PageMaker's color management system manages colors applied to PageMaker objects, colors in RGB bitmap images, and special colors in EPS files. Color management of RGB screen images in a CMYK TIFF file enables output to a color mixing and proofing device. The revised color, but also since the change of a CMYK TIFF target formal output device. Cannot perform color management on DCS, WMF, and PICT files.

I. Opening and Closing Control of the PageMaker Color Management System (CMS)

1. Open the color management system

When using the PageMaker to open the CMS, the system will perform corresponding spatial changes and transfer of the transmitted color information in various aspects such as input, display, color separation and printing, in order to minimize color distortion. When opening the CMS, other CMS systems should be turned off, otherwise there will be confusion results.

(1) Select "File/Custom Format/General".

(2) Click on "CMSPreferences".

(3) Select "Open" from the "Color Management" drop-down menu.

(4) Click "OK" to open the color management system.

2. Turn off the color management system

(1) Turn off the color management system as a whole

A. The color management system can be turned off as a whole under the following conditions:

1 Do not use bitmap images and only use special colors in publications.

2 Use only color-processed CMYK color images.

3 Import only includes graphics that contain only process color DCS files and EPS files.

4 Use a post-processing application to create a separation of publications.

B. Steps to turn off the color management system as a whole:

1 Select the "File/Custom Format/General" command.

2 Click the "CMS Settings" button.

3 Select Off from the Color Management drop-down menu.

4 Click the OK button.

(2) Partially closed color management system

When you do not want to manage the color of a particular image, you can turn off the color management of the image file, allowing the color information of the file to pass through the CMS without having to change. The color information is still useful for the output device, but it is not managed by PageMaker's CMS.

A. The color management system can be partially turned off in the following cases:

1 Create a CMYK TIFF image file in image processing software, such as Photoshop, and direct the image to a formal output device.

2 Images are color-separated by directional device features, and layout and positioning are set using only low-resolution images.

B. Steps to partially turn off the color management system:

1 Select the image.

2 Select "Components/Images/CMS Sources".

3 Select None from the This Item Uses drop-down menu.

Second, PageMaker color management system (CMS) settings

Select the "File/Custom Format/Common" command and click the "CMS Settings" button to display the CMS Preferences screen (CMS Preferences).

1. "Color Management". This item is used to determine whether the color management system is on (select "ON") or off (select "OFF"). If Kodak CMS is turned on while using PageMaker, the system will perform corresponding spatial changes and transmissions in the input, display, color separation and printing, to minimize the color distortion.

2. "Monitor emulation". This item is used to open the soft proofing function in the color management so that the output of the color separation file can be displayed on the screen. There are "none" and "compound printers". "Color separation printer" and other options.

3. "New project use." This item is used to determine which color management system to choose. There are "None", "Kodak CMS (ICC)", "ColorCync" and other options.

4. "Kodak CMS (ICC) Settings".

(1) "Monitor" option. Select the device profile that matches the monitor type;

(2) "Composite Printer" option. Select the device profile that matches the output device (multi-station printer) used for the color mixing output;

(3) "Color separation printer" option. Select the device profile that matches the output device (color separation printer) used to create the color separations;

(4) "RGB Image Source" option. Select a device profile for creating RGB color images;

(5) "CMYK image source" option. Select the device profile that was used to create the CMYK color image.

The device profile described here will be automatically applied to all file objects it creates as the system's default file.

Third, the PageMaker color management system (CMS) control functions

Due to the embedded structure, PageMaker itself only provides specific operation methods for color management. The main layer is for setting and managing device feature files for colors in two different types of processing objects: graphic text and color images. And color management of color images.

1. Defining the device's features by coloring graphic text

Coloring defining device features with colors involves two aspects: manually setting new colors and letting color management (CMS) automatically assign device features to new colors.

(1) Manually setting device features for new colors

1 Select Window/History Color Board.

2 Select "Add color" from the color palette.

3 In the "Color Options" dialog box, "Name" must be entered with a name.

a. Select “Category” (special color, printing color, talk color) “touch type” (RGB, HLS, CMYK) and color value by inner color to select the coloring color that you need;

b. Select a color from the predefined Color Bank.

4 In the Color Options dialog box, click CMS Sources.

5 Select the color device characteristics (source profile) according to the following guidelines:

a. If you intend to create an RGB color, the device profile selected by the color should be consistent with the device profile of the user monitor;

b. If you plan to create a CMYK color, the device profile selected for that color should be consistent with the user's "separation printer" device profile.

6 Click OK to return to the Collar Options dialog.

7 Click OK.

This completes the process of defining color device features for coloring colors.

(2) Let color management (CMS) automatically assign device features for new colors

1 Select "File/Custom Format/General" and click "CMS Settings".

2 In the CMS Customization Format dialog box, select the color management system from New Project Usage to set the device profile for the new color.

3 In Monitor Emulation, specify the monitor description file for the newly created RGB color, specify the “color separation printer” device description file for the newly created CMYK color, and select “None” to turn off the newly created color management.

4 Click OK to exit the CMS Custom Format dialog box. Then click OK.

2. Color-to-color images define their device characteristics

Color images can be generated from different sources, such as drawing programs, scanners, and so on. If you created it with an application with CMS, this image contains the CMS's device profile, which specifies the color gamut of the image's color.

(1) Principles for using source description files when placing image files:

1 If the image was created with an application that supports the Kodak CMS, the PageMaker application
Kodak CMS source description file.

2 If the source description file specified in the image file is not available, the PageMaker application default CMS selects the default description file.

2 If there is no original description file specified in the image file, PageMaker applies the default CMS and selects the source description file that best matches the image color mode from the "RGB image source" and "CMYK image source".

4 If you want to change the device profile settings that PageMaker determines, you can reset the correct CMS source profile.

5 If the placed image is to be color corrected in an application such as PhotoShop, the source description file should be reset in PageMaker after editing.

(2) Two ways to set the color image device profile

A. Apply Source Description File When Placing Color Images

1 Select File/Place.

2 Select the image to place and click CMS Source.

3 From the CMS Source Profile dialog box, select a corresponding device description file.

4 Click OK.

B. Select a device profile for a color portrait in a publication

1 Select a color image. You can also select multiple images by holding down the Shift key.

2 Select “Components/Image/CMS Sources” to also select different CMSs for the image or turn off color management.

3 Select a signature file from the CMS Source Profile dialog.

4 Click OK.

3. Pre-separation function for color images

PageMaker preprocesses color images without having to do it in other software.

(1) Two types of space conversion

1 Convert the color image files of the RGB space in the template file into CMYK files according to the specific device feature file relationship.

2 Position one CMYK TIFF image to another CMYK output device.

(2) Several situations where pre-color separation processing is required

1 Perform CMYK color separation printing.

2 Further processing of publications does not support special color management.

3 Create a CMYK image and keep it on the OPI server.

4 The image is not corrected for RGB color space.

(3) Operation method of image pre-separation processing

1 Select the national image to be color-separated.

2 Select File/Export/Graphics. Select Save as Separations in the Output Image dialog box.

3 Type a name for a separation file and select the folder where the file is saved.

4 Click "Settings" and select a screen preview option.

"Do not enter the image" will not produce a low resolution screen pre-modern image of the image;

"Best" will produce a 72dpi resolution original image of the screen preview representation;

"Drafts" will produce a 36dpi resolving original image of the screen preview representation

5 Select "Link to new image".

6 Click Save.

Change the output device description file before printing

You can change the tool description file for the selected "Mixed Printer" or "Color Separation Printer" from the "Print" dialog box. Before printing on different output devices, change the device description file in "CMS Custom Format" to match the output device.
